  • Ashwagandha is a small shrub with a height of around 1 - 5 feets. Dry roots of Ashwagandha smells like that of a horse and a Horse is known as Ashwa in Sanskrit, which is why the drug is named as Ashwagandha. It is majorly found in the areas of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

 

How is Ashwagandha known in your area?

 

  • In Hindi speaking States Ashwagandha is known as asgandha.  In Bengal, it is called as Ashwagandha. In Telugu speaking States, it is called as paneru.  In the areas of Gujarat, It is known as Aasandh.
  • Ashwagandha has been known to treat itching disorders, leprosy and white spots since ages. The results of using Ashwagandha are very powerful in other skin disorders too. Except these, it is known to treat goitre.
 
  • To use Ashwagandha for goitre, the roots of Ashwagandha the crushed and the paste is applied on the affected area. Similarly it is used for other skin diseases also.
  • This is a medicine, and needs to be used with the proper prescription suggesting the doses for the drug.
